Awards organisers have reported that there has been a lot of interest in this year’s event which has resulted in their decision to extend the deadline so businesses have more time to put together their applications.

New to the awards – public can also nominate businesses

The organisers are also trying something new this year by asking the public to suggest who they’d like to see enter. Businesses who have been nominated by the public will be contacted directly by the organisers to let them know they’ve been put forward and information will be sent to them. Organisers say that knowing they have their community behind them is a huge confidence boost for business thinking about giving it a go to enter the awards.

Previous entrants say the awards process is an excellent opportunity to reflect on how they operate. They say it’s helped them set goals, renewed their enthusiasm for their business, and to feel very proud of the work they’re doing here in Hauraki and Coromandel.

Hauraki Coromandel Business Award categories

There are seven categories that businesses can enter including:

  • Emerging Business
  • Hospitality
  • Manufacturing & Trade
  • Professional Services
  • Retail
  • Rural & Primary Industries
  • Tourism.

There are also awards for Service to Business and the hotly-contested People’s Choice with public nominations for these two categories open on September 6. The gala evening for the 2021 Hauraki Coromandel Business Awards is on October 28, 2021 at the Grand Mercure Puka Park in Pauanui. The event was postponed last year due to COVID-19.

The last year was an incredibly challenging time for businesses. But people here have shown extraordinary resilience and that’s something we want to acknowledge and celebrate.
