Whenuakite is often used as a meeting place for those linking up by car, bus or bike as they head to Whitianga, Hot Water Beach, Hahei, Cathedral Cove, Cooks Beach, Flaxmill Bay or Ferry Landing.

Central to this community is the Whenuakite Primary School, which was established in 1908 and has a role of over 120 for years 1-8.
