The local Unichem pharmacy have taken on the commitment of being a permanent vaccination centre in Whitianga until all who wish to be vaccinated have been.
The Pharmacy is a permanent site, not a pop-up, so will be providing vaccinations until the community need disappears. They will be operating in conjunction with the Hangar location and Mercury Bay Medical Centre. All of these locations are available to book into.
How to book your COVID-19 Vaccination at the pharmacy
You can book your COVID-19 vaccinations with the pharmacy by calling 0800 28 29 26 or going to bookmyvaccine.co.nz.
For online bookings, enter either Whitianga or 3510 - Waikato or “Unichem Stephenson’s Pharmacy” when prompted for by the site.
You can book or change your appointment in one of the following three ways:
- Calling 0800 28 29 26.
- online via - https://bookmyvaccine.covid19.health.nz/
- Popping in to the Unichem Stephenson's Pharmacy and seeing the friendly staff
A lot of people had already booked into Thames before we could announce we were open but we can definitely change their appointments to Whitianga for them. When booking online or via phone don't use the access number they have provided. It causes problems for some reason. I find when booking it is easiest to type in 'Whitianga' to get the location options or you can use 3510 - Waikato.

The kind staff at the Mercury Bay Library have also offered to assist with anyone having difficulty making a booking.
Whitianga Community Vaccination Drive
Unichem Stephenson's Pharmacy are holding a community COVID-19 vaccination drive on the Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd of August at the pharmacy 9.30am to 5 pm both days.
The idea behind this is to offer a day / time that works for our fulltime workers, caregivers in the community and people that are some distance out of town. Slots have been opened for booking on these days and an extra vaccinator and administration staff will be working to make sure they can provide a quick and efficient service.
The pharmacy will also be taking walk in appointments on these days and offering a “whanau approach” if you are there with a family member and wish to get vaccinated as well we will accommodate you as long as you are over 16 years of age.
More than just vaccinations
On Sunday, the 22nd August, Matilda the Time Travelling Fairy and Petunia Fairy will be making Balloon Creations to keep the children entertained.
Triton Hearing are providing two hearing test Kiosks at the pharmacy also. So why not check your hearing for free while you wait.
