From April 2nd, the criteria for testing of Covid-19 coronavirus has been expanded nationwide. Anyone with respiratory symptoms consistent with Covid-19 coronavirus will be considered for testing regardless of travel history or contact with a confirmed case.

What is the criteria for Covid-19 coronavirus testing? 

Anyone with respiratory symptoms consistent with Covid-19 coronavirus will be considered for testing regardless of travel history or contact with a confirmed case. Individuals with a fever AND/OR sore throat, cough or shortness of breath can be considered for testing.

Where is Covid-19 coronavirus testing in Whitianga?

The Mercury Bay Medical Centre is available to test for Covid-19 coronavirus between 10am-3pm Monday to Friday, in line with their courier pick ups. The designated testing site is located on the Bryce Street side of the Mercury Bay Medical Centre at 87 Albert Street, Whitianga.

The Medical Centre asks individuals to be patient during the testing process. Staff need to follow protocols to make the process as efficient as possible while ensuring they are keeping individuals and staff safe during the testing process.

Please call ahead to confirm approval for a test

You cannot go to the Mercury Bay Medical Centre site for testing without prior approval from the urgent Doctor first. Call the Medical Centre if you feel you meet the criteria to be tested. This will assist  Medical Centre staff in managing the anticipated high demand.
