Event organisers throughout the Mercury Bay have been busy arranging Christmas parades, parties and photos with Santa for families to enjoy.
Christmas events in Whitianga and the Mercury Bay
November Xmas activities
Photos with Santa
Santa is visiting early and will be available for photographs with children on November 28th. Come along and bring the kids to Grace O’Malley’s from 12pm to 5pm. This is a fundraising event for Bellyful Whitianga.
Guthrie Bowron Pledging Tree
Drop into Guthrie Bowron and choose a pledge for a local family. Buy a gift, wrap it and drop it back under their tree before December 18th.
MBAS Christmas food hampers
Mercury Bay Area School are coordinating Christmas / summer food hampers for families in the local community. If you would like to contribute some non-perishable items of food, please drop them off to the school office before the 11th December.
December Xmas activities
Whitianga Santa Parade
Floats and fun for everyone on Saturday 5th December. The parade will make its way through the entre of town at 12.30pm. A chance to get out and even do some Christmas shopping.
American Muscle Car Club Xmas Party
The American Muscle Car club will celebrate Christmas on December 6th. Cars will be parked up at Smitty’s Sports Bar on Sunday morning. The Club will then drive out to Cooks Beach for a light lunch. All welcome.
Community Carols - Whitianga
The Combined Community Churches are hosting Carol singing in Soldiers Memorial Park on December 11th, from 7pm. Bring along a picnic, that family and your singing voices. A great way to celebrate the festive season.
Christmas House at Simpson's Beach - 66 Wharekaho Rd
Open from 7pm until Christmas Eve. Santa is in attendance from 7.30pm until 9.30 pm each night. This is the final display in the 20 year history of the Christmas House. Featuring new displays, make sure you don't miss this. Donations made will support the Mercury Bay Day Camp.
Matarangi Santa Parade
Gather your friends and family, get dressed up, decorate your car and join in the Matarangi Santa Parade. Everyone is welcome to come and join in the fun on December 20th.
Community Christmas in the Park – Cooks Beach
The Cooks Beach Car Club is hosting a free event on the reserve at Cooks Beach. Sunday 20th December between 4pm and 7pm. Sausage sizzle, games and a lolly scramble too. Santa will be there, so you can have your photo taken with him and your favourite car. Bring a picnic and the family.
Community Christmas Dinner
At the Crossroads Church (cnr Joan Gaskell & Cook Drive) on Christmas Day for those who might be alone at Christmas or cannot readily afford those Christmas treats. Doors open at 11am. A free event. The dinner is prepared by a group of volunteers along with decorations. If you are able to help, contribute or would like to attend, please see the Mercury Bay Community Support Trust website.
