How does the Pledging Tree work?

You’re invited to visit the team at Guthrie Bowron and choose an anonymous recipient(s) from the tags on the Christmas tree. Age groups will range from the very young to the elderly, singles, couples and families. You are welcome to pick one that suits you. 

1. Choose a pledge
2. Buy and wrap your gifts
3. Return your gifts to the Christmas tree by December 18th
4. Enjoy the warm feeling you get!

What do I buy?

When you choose your pledge, your tag will guide you on what the recipient may like or need. For example, you may choose an elderly person who says they don’t mind what gift they get but would prefer no books or puzzles. Or perhaps a teenage girl who is interested in music and technology but is grateful for any gift.

We have learnt a lot over the eight years that we have run the Pledging Tree and it is just such a great way for our team to give back to the community. It’s a lot of fun seeing families and especially children coming in to choose a person or family to give to. The reward of giving is really shared by both our givers and our families and individuals in need.

Families in need

Whitianga Social Services have registered over 40 families for gifts. There may be more to add in the next few weeks. The gifts will be distributed to families on Saturday 19th December by the Social Services team.

Our community works together to achieve positive outcomes especially at a special time coming up to Christmas holidays. Some people are struggling financially due to COVID-19, health issues, loneliness and or other factors. ‘He taonga rongonui Te aroha kit e tangata’ Kindness towards people is a great treasure.
