The first school in Coroglen opened on May 20th 1896 when the settlement was called Gumtown. At this time the local population were attracted to the area as gum diggers, kauri loggers and some as early settlers to establish farming blocks. As a result Coroglen today is mainly a farming and life style community. It still has a small country primary school with two classrooms to cater for years 1-8 and has a motto that reflects its community "from the land our strength".
