Tech Talks

Next Tech Talk is Tuesday 27 May - 10.30am-11.30am.

From the organiser:  On Tuesday 27 May, from 10:30am–11:30am, we’re pleased to be hosting an Exotic Caulerpa Tech Talk with Steve Harris from Advanced Aquarium Technologies.

teve will introduce his Dropcam system and Dropcam Telemetry Viewer – an open-source, low-cost underwater monitoring tool developed here in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The session will walk through the Dropcam workflow, from deployment in the field through to reviewing, mapping, and reporting underwater observations. Designed to be low-cost, practical and user-friendly, the system enables users to capture GPS-linked underwater footage using relatively simple equipment, helping make marine monitoring more achievable for communities, researchers, iwi, and environmental groups.

While the system is not limited to exotic Caulerpa surveillance, it has strong potential to support marine biosecurity and monitoring efforts by providing a scalable and repeatable way to document what is happening beneath the surface.

Steve will also speak to the thinking behind the system, how it has evolved through real-world survey work, and where the technology may head next.
If this sounds like something you’d like to learn more about, we’d love to have you join us.
