13 January to 29 January Library Summer Holiday programme! Weekly events and activities at various times run at the Mercury Bay Library throughout the year and over the school holiday periods. And of course come on in any day they are open to get your favourite books for some excellent reading!

The Mercury Bay Whitianga library summer holiday programme summary as follows (please note some activities may be subject to change so please contact the library for more details):

Every weekday
Get ready for fun at the library this summer! We’ll have a great range of games out across the school holidays, from quick pick-up challenges to family favourites. Pop in anytime, take a break from the sun, and enjoy some relaxed holiday fun. All ages welcome! 

Week 1
Tuesday 13 January

Floating Magnet Pictures - Is it magic or science that makes your picture float in mid air? 
Wednesday 14 January

Stick Puppet Theatre - design characters and build a story

Thursday 15 January
Clucking Chicken Cups - have a hoot constructing these noise makers

 
Week 2

Tuesday 20 January

Claw Machine - get technical and engineer your own grabber

Wednesday 21 January

Puppet on a String - make your marionette dance!
Thursday 22 January

Recycled Robots - Assemble a bot-buddy from everyday objects

Week 3

Tuesday 27 January

Puffy Painting – have a go with our crafty art supplies

Wednesday 28 January

Sock Puppet Comedians - teach your hand puppet some great jokes to share

General Activities on offer outside of school holiday period 

Please note these events are indicative of what the library offer and  may be subject to change. Please refer to attached images on this page and the TCDC District Library link on this page for any updates. 

Toddler Time: Read and Wiggle! Mondays at 10am. Join us during term time for a fun morning of stories, games and songs for under 5s and their grown-ups. Last session of the year usually late December. 

Crochet Club:  Mondays at 1:30pm. If you would like to learn to crochet, and crochet already but would like to swap patterns, or if you have the expertise in this hobby, come along to our weekly Crochet Club.

STEM Labs: Thursdays at 3:30pm. Let's learn about STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) with some awesome after-school mini-projects and experiments! Last session of the year usually late December. 

Genealogy: Explore your family tree with the New Zealand Society of Genealogists. Held every third Tuesday of each month usually 2pm-5pm.  Drop in for a chat with the experts from our local NZSG branch - they'll be able to help you learn more about your family's history.

Activity Table: Looking for something to keep the kids busy? Look no further! Mercury Bay Library's activity table has a brand new activity every week. We also put out the plastic bricks for our Build Challenge every Friday and Saturday - what will you create?
