What's on in Whitianga this Easter weekend?
From Church services to the night sky, markets and fish – there's something for everyone this Easter in Whitianga. Match these Easter activities with Mercury Bay's usual things to do and perhaps a great place to eat and we are set for a great weekend!
This year Easter falls a week before the start of the school holidays. It could prove to make things busy on the roads, so do check the roading status before heading off with a car full of children.
Local churches have shared their Easter Service times with us if you are looking for a place to worship.
If you are in the Mercury Bay early for Easter, then you may like to enjoy this event from Local photographer Ian Preece. Ian has shared some of his awesome night sky photography in a short film being shown at Mercury Twin Cinemas.
Easter is often a time for gardening, so why not hop along to the Chops Landscaping Plant Nursery Pop-up shop to stock up on natives and sup-tropical plants.
Easter Saturday the Cooks Beach Volunteer Fire Brigade are holding an open day to keep you entertained. Sunday will see the last Coroglen Farmers Market for the season, it'll be your last chance to grab local produce and wares. There are also markets in Whitianga and Matarangi this weekend.

The school holidays sees the return of the famous Mercury Bay Day Camp, where children converge on a Cooks Beach farm and enjoy numerous outdoor activities such as archery, campfire cooking, mudslide, kayaking and a confidence course just to name a few. If being on the water is more your thing, then the MB Game Fishing Club are holding their Junior Fishing Tournament over the school holidays.
Temperatures in Whitianga for April sees an average daytime temperature around 20ºC, so warm enough for outside and water activities too. You’ll need an extra layer handy as the sun goes down. During this time of year the Mercury Bay has some stunning sunrises and sunsets, so photographers and ‘grammers make sure you have your camera’s handy.
