Iconic Whitianga Festival Cancelled for second year
The Festival Committee have reported that the decision to cancel the Oceans Festival for a second year was not been made lightly. The Whitianga Oceans Festival takes many months to organise and the Festival Committee has determined that they are unable to take the risk, or bear the cost, of another cancelled event. The much anticipated 2021 Festival was cancelled just two weeks out due to Covid-19 lockdowns.
We had hoped that 2022 would be easier to navigate from an event perspective, but the variant Omicron poses additional risks to the Festival as the Government can change traffic light levels with just 24-48 hours notice. We are unable to deliver the event at the red setting which only allows for groups of 100.

Thank you from Festival committee
The Committee acknowledges that thousands of people look forward to the annual Spring getaway in the beautiful Coromandel and share the disappointment.
The Festival involves many Coromandel community groups who provide much of the music, people power and food stalls that make the Festival a truly home grown experience.
The Committee thank festival goers for their understanding during these difficult times and will now aim to deliver a fresh and fun Whitianga Oceans Festival in September 2023.
All ticket holders will be contacted over the coming week.
