Peter Augustin - an artist with a passion for lyrical

Peter Augustin is a well known artist based in Whitianga. His art work has been described by gallerists as ‘lyrical Abstract’ which connects to his influencers including de Stael, Jawlensky, Dali, and Schiele. Peter says there are other influences, including the people around me.

In New Zealand I am influenced by the vibrant colours of nature, amazing range of greens and blues, and the sea. Other influences include mythology, music, opera, and symbolism.

Peter is an active member in the local Coromandel art scene and is also:

• A member and selector of Mercury Bay Art Escape
• An Elected Member of the Academy of Fine Arts, Wellington
• A member of Watercolour New Zealand
• A member of Xpress Artists, Coromandel (formerly Printmakers Combined).

Peter Augustin Studio Gallery Whitianga

The Peter Augustin Gallery is home to an exhibition of works from local artist Peter Augustin. Peter’s Studio/Gallery is a purpose-built and a fantastic space for people to come and visit over the Art Escape and see Peter at his easel.
 
During the year, November to June, the Studio/Gallery is open by appointment and includes works by other local artists. 
 
Peter Augustin’s next exhibition will be a group of five artists, ‘Elementa 5’ at the Barry Brickell Gallery, Driving Creek in April. More details can be found on the All About Whitianga Events section.
