Are you a senior wanting to brush up on your computer and digital skills? Whitianga SeniorNet group specialises in digital skills for seniors and will be offering workshops and sessions for seniors beginning in February. Find out more about what SeniorNet has to offer in this article.

What is Whitianga SeniorNet about?

A group of Whitianga volunteers provide a relaxed and friendly environment for those over 50, to become more skilled in using their:

  • smartphone
  • smart TV
  • computers
  • and  help become confident at internet banking, social media, emails or online shopping.

They offer a variety of one on one or group learning sessions to help demystify the online world. The group meets on Tuesdays and Wednesday during school terms at the Whitianga Social Services building on Cook Drive.

At SeniorNet there are no silly questions – encouraging your questions and participation in a friendly, sociable environment.

What’s on offer in term one at SeniorNet?

One on One 

These are perfect those that are new to a device. Once you are up and running and more familiar with your device, then join a group session. One-on-One workshops are one hour long and you have ample opportunity to go over technology questions or problems with one of the tutors. 

Genealogy Interest Group

This is run as Interest Groups, which encourage everyone to participate. Group sessions have topics such as DNA results, Ancestry, Family Search, Family Tree Maker or general Online Research. Those just starting out, may wish to have a one on one first or join a beginner session.

Apple Stuff

There are two levels here to make the most of your MacBook / iphone or Ipad.

File it or Lose it

This 2-part course shows you how to tell your computer where to put stuff. When you know how, it is easy for you to sort through your files, name them, and put them in folders. Every member should take this course as it is the basis of you taking control of your files and photos 

Wordle

Find out all about this latest word craze.

Android group

This group is useful for people who have recently got an Android device and want to learn more. Bring along your device, problems, ideas for apps that you find interesting, and share them with the group. 

How to avoid scams

Learn ways to check out a scam, to avoid falling for wonderful offers, or get to the bottom of fake news. 

Music Streaming services

Do you love listening to music? Come along and learn about the different Music Streaming Apps available via your Phone, Tablet, Laptop Computer or Smart TV. 

AMI

Workshop for setting up your online account access. AMI Customers may be aware that AMI has offered to pay for membership subscriptions to SeniorNet. Come along to learn how to set up your AMI account access and get an overview on what else is available for you to streamline your business with AMI.
