Creative Conversations in Whitianga

This event is a unique opportunity for the local creative community to come together, share their mahi, and explore how Creative Coromandel can support their creativity. Open to all, this event invites you to an evening of good kai, vibrant kōrero, and the chance to form new friendships and connections.

Chair of Creative Coromandel, Fiona Cameron, summed up the importance of this Coromandel wide initiative:

Resilient communities are connected communities where relationships with our arts sectors are fostered to enable them to achieve their full economic and social potential.

Creative Conversations is more than just a sit-down meeting. It’s designed to be an engaging, lively event where diverse groups—including creatives, businesses, iwi, schools, and community organisations—can connect and collaborate. The goal is to strengthen Coromandel communities through the arts, creativity, and culture, which play an essential role in fostering community wellbeing and economic vitality.

Creative Conversations across the Coromandel

The Creative Conversations series began in Whangamatā, followed by Tairua-Pāuanui, and will now move forward to Whitianga-Mercury Bay, continuing its mission to connect with creative communities across all five wards of the Coromandel Peninsula.

The latest Creative Conversations event took place in Tairua in late August. Attendees, including arts groups, local businesses, and creatives, had the chance to kōrero and exchange ideas. And, thanks to Mayor Len Salt’s support and Deputy Mayor Terry Walker’s skilled MCing, new connections were formed, and opportunities shared. Creative Coromandel also wish to extend a special thanks  to Tairua-Pāuanui Trustee Jean McCann, who played a key role in organising the evening.

The purpose of Creative Conversations

Creative Conversations offers a chance for everyone—not just artists—to come together, socialise, and discover new opportunities. It’s an inclusive platform designed to celebrate community activities, foster collaboration, and amplify the voices of local creatives.

As Creative Coromandel continues to roll out this project, each event provides a space where local creatives can share their stories, meet like-minded individuals, and be introduced to initiatives that can help elevate their creative practices.
