Fundraiser for children of Ukraine to be held in Whitianga

The Ukraine film fundraiser will be held at the Monkey House Lounge and Cabaret venue in Whitianga from 5pm on 20 March. Entry on the evening is by koha/donation (suggested $10) and additionally Beat Fairy events are donating 50% of the profits made at the bar for drinks and snacks to ChildFund.

ChildFund New Zealand has already been working on the ground in the Ukraine for 20 years, so will be an excellent recipient of the funds we raise during this event. We are working closely with Sally Angelson who is the programme director of ChildFund New Zealand, and the daughter of local Whitianga residents Noel and Nicky Hewlett. It is great to know that the funds will go to exactly where they are needed. We'd love as many people as possible to come along to this evening to have a good time, in aid of a very worthy cause.

Beat Fairy Events have musical performances, raffle prizes and films planned for the evening as follows:

• Freedom or Death! (R) – Ukrainian Documentary filmed in 2015. This film will be followed by a live question and answer session with Director, Damian Kilobit
• What we do in the Shadows (R13) – NZ horror comedy film! - Flatmates Viago (Taika Waititi), Deacon (Jonny Brugh), and Vladislav (Jemaine Clement) are three vampires who are just trying to get by in modern society; from paying rent and sticking to the housework roster to trying to get invited in to nightclubs, they’re just like anyone else - except they’re immortal and must feast on human blood
• Raffles – with great prizes from local businesses!
• Live music – from the talented Stu Pedley.

About ChildFund and how to support their efforts

ChildFund New Zealand’s purpose is to enable children and youth to thrive. ChildFund is a well established international charity which first pioneered monthly child sponsorship in 1947. Ambassadors for the charity include well known New Zealand personalities Hilary Barry and Danielle McCormack. 

Fundraising from ChildFund will provide immediate support for victims and refugees in the Ukraine. Their focus is on ensuring children and families have access to basic needs like food, water and medicine, and providing psychosocial and educational support to keep children occupied during this devastating time.
