Pink Buns in Coromandel

Its official! February 14 is Pink Bun Day, so share the love this Valentine’s Day by buying a pink bun at participating bakeries and you’ll be supporting Whitianga Lions Club Project Mammogram Pink Bun Day.

Who doesn’t love a pink bun, right? It’s the perfect treat to enjoy with friends and family, work colleagues, and of course, you’ll be the best boss in town if you show up with pink buns for morning tea on Pink Bun Day.

Local Coromandel businesses have worked with the Project Mammogram team on this fundraising initiative. The idea of Pink Bun Day is to buy a pink bun for yourself, someone you love or even for staff in your workplace for morning tea, and businesses will donate money raised from the sale to Project Mammogram.

As a family owned business in Whitianga I am proud to stand beside my team and support Project Mammogram. This will be a great service to have in our community. Head into our Bakery Department at New World Whitianga to purchase your pack of Pink Buns to get in behind this great cause.

Boosting community wellbeing

Whitianga Lions Club Project Mammogram coordinator Mike Brown says that while the focus for Project Mammogram is to raise $350,000 to buy a 3D mammogram unit to be based in Whitianga and ensure early detection for better outcomes for the people of Coromandel Peninsula, actually celebrating life through fun events like Pink Bun Day is really important for community wellbeing as well.

We’re incredibly grateful to Whitianga New World, Pak ‘n Save Thames, Tairua Four Square, Bay Bakery in Whitianga, and Coromandel Four Square for their enthusiasm in being part of our first Pink Bun Day. They will be putting their best pink-iced bun, or muffin, forward on the day with donations from the sale of every pink bun going to Project Mammogram. Some are even donating all their profits from their pink buns sales on the day. That’s incredibly generous!
