The Whitianga Toy Library is reaching out to local businesses and community members to help enhance the joy and play experiences for Mercury Bay's children. Nestled in their new location on Blacksmith Lane, the not for profit Toy Library is not just a place for toys; it's a haven where families come together, fostering a supportive and caring environment for children to thrive. In this article the All About Whitianga team talk to Krissy Robinson, Toy Library Chairperson, about the new initiative.

Unique sponsorship programme opportunity

The library has initiated a unique sponsorship program for local businesses or community members to contribute to the expansion and improvement of the toy library collection. The idea is simple - businesses or individuals can sponsor a toy related to their industry or interests, and in return, the library will prominently display the business name, logo, or individual name on the sponsored toy container and on the Toy Library sponsor's board.

We are thrilled about the prospect of upgrading our toy collection and creating a lasting partnership with local businesses and individuals. For businesses this is a fantastic opportunity to not only support our community but also gain exposure through a long-term and meaningful association. We have almost 100 families as members from all walks of life. A sponsored toy will not only bring joy to countless children but also serve as a unique marketing opportunity, with the business logo seen repeatedly over the years by parents and caregivers.

– Toy Library Chairperson, Krissy Robinson.

The Toy Library has a wish-list with various toy options, ranging from $10 to $500, ensuring businesses of all sizes can participate. If a business prefers, they can also recommend a specific toy from their own inventory. The library assures that sponsored toys will have a lasting impact, being enjoyed by generations to come, as their well-loved toys often last for decades.

How to sponsor a toy

If you or your business would like to sponsor a toy, please contact Krissy and the team via email, who can help with options so you can select your toy.

Included below in the image gallery are examples of some of the toys available and some already sponsored by local businesses.

Affordable Whitianga Toy Library

The Whitianga Toy Library, run by dedicated volunteers, is a not for profit community service with a mission to provide high-quality toys for children up to the age of six.

With approximately 450 toys available for hire, the library offers an affordable annual membership fee of

  • $35 for families,
  • $20 for grandparents,
  • and $80 concession card, includes the toy hire fees (up to 5 visits).

Members can borrow up to 10 toys for a two-week period, ensuring a constant flow of new and exciting toys for their little ones.
