Up-cycle your biking skills this summer

If it has been a few years since you rode a bike, are you confident and have the skills to ride?

It’s like they saying goes ‘it’s like riding a bike’, right? Why should you attend a course? Think of it as a warrant of fitness, a checkup to build confidence.

Free cycle skills course

The two sessions of three hours, from 9am-12pm on February 18th and 24th will build on your current knowledge and experience.The course will give you tips on everything from bike checks to how to ‘claim the lane’, along with information on:

• Bike skills – the five L’s
• How to be seen
• Where to be on the road and at round-abouts
• Making eye contact with drivers
• Scanning for hazards
• Road rules
• Planning your trip.

To attend the free course, you’ll need to know how to ride, have a roadworthy bike and helmet and be open to having a good time. There will be a limited number of spaces available, so please book by phoning the Thames-Coromandel District Council on 07 868 0200.

Cycling – the new way to see the country

Bicycling and e-biking are all the rage at the moment with 50 years+ riders. Over this year an increasing number of middle-aged Kiwis are also choosing to travel New Zealand in motorhomes – with bicycles strapped on the back. A great kiwi holiday in the making!

The Coromandel Peninsula offers the popular Hauraki Rail trail just a short drive from the Mercury Bay. In Whitianga there is a great beachfront track along Buffalo Beach Road, a bike park and easy flat cycling around town.
