Public feedback sought for Pepe Stream Bridge replacement

Recently a survey on the bridge replacement was conducted by Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency. Over 900 responses were received from locals and bridge users. Feedback included common themes around signage, traffic congestion, queueing, and the safety of people walking and cycling.

There was overwhelming support for a two-lane bridge.

“It was interesting to learn how people use the bridge – with a majority of respondents crossing between 2 – 7 times a week during the daytime in a car. The need for this new bridge was highlighted. People rated it 4 out of 10 in terms of safety for pedestrians and cyclists, and 3 out of 10 as a suitable accessway across Pepe Stream.”

Open day to discuss project

Further to the survey, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency are inviting the public to come along and learn more at the open day they are running to discuss the project.
The open day will be at the Tairua School from 3.30pm – 6pm on Thursday 11th August.

A shortlist of ideas will be shared with the public. More will still need to be done including meeting with key stakeholders, including local council, iwi and road advocacy groups. Feedback and consultation will help refine options. It is hoped that a preferred option will be able to be presented by the end of 2021.
