Annual Train and Model Show Event

The Mercury Bay Railway Club may be a small group of locals keen on modelling, but what they may lack in numbers, they certainly don’t lack in enthusiasm. The club will be hosting its annual show 3 October at the Whitianga Town Hall and has opened its categories to all model enthusiast displays.

Covid-19 lockdown saw the original 5th annual show in July postponed until 3 October. Each year in July a show is held to show off the years work. The club isexcited that the show has been rescheduled, and members have been working hard on their displays and layouts over this year.

The club hopes to increase interest in modelling as a hobby and to encourage more members to its group. Exhibits at the show will include:

  • Model railway
  • Military equipment
  • Hornby Tin Plate
  • Lego / Duplo trains
  • Planes
  • Doll collection
  • German Battleship.

The show is an opportunity to bring together like minded model enthusiasts and families that enjoy viewing models. Our local club members are mainly focused on railway modelling, but also have interests in military, planes or other similar types of modelling and always happy to chat and compare notes.

Damon Christensen, Mercury Bay Model Railway Club.

Mercury Bay Model Railway Club

The Mercury Bay Model Railway Club was established by Whitianga local, Damon Christensen, who is passionate about his hobby and wanted to spread the craft in the Whitianga community.

The club welcomes new membership and are happy to have ‘part-time’ members in the form of non-residents in the club. The club is about connecting and having company while model building, or just to see what it’s all about. Visitors are welcome to contact the club and come and join the modelling table for an hour or two, or just pop in for a chat.

Meetings are ad hoc, but most often occur on a Sunday afternoon. The members also have a collection of New Zealand and American magazines and books on modelling available to borrow.

Want to be an exhibitor or a model show sponsor?

If you would like to know more about the club, the show or even offer support in the form of sponsorship please contact Damon Christensen.
