The annual Poppy Appeal raises funds for the RSA's support services to war veterans and the ex-service community. Poppy Appeal collectors will be in Albert Street and Monk Street all day and would appreciate any donation you are able to give!
Location points of Poppy Appeal Stalls
If the appeal goes ahead on a future date, you can get a poppy from a stall at one of these locations:
- PaperPlus
- New World
- Countdown
- Monk Street Barbershop
- And collection boxes at retailers throughout town.
Why the Poppy?
The Poppy is used as a symbol by the Returned Service Association (RSA) to remind us of sacrifices made – both past and present. Poppies were the first flowers that grew in the battlefields of Flanders in Belgium during World War One and are a symbol of remembrance and hope.
RSA volunteers exchange distinctive red poppies for a donation to the Poppy Appeal.
