Coffee Catch-up in Whitianga

The Historical Society are excited to host regular coffee catchups, details of the next catchup:

Guest Speaker - Gaynor Kerridge.

Gaynor Kerridge (nee Simpson) was born in Fiji to father, Ross, who was working there at the time, and

mother, Viti Simpson.

As a family they travelled back to Kuaotunu many times to visit their large Simpson family including

being evacuated back to Kuaotunu with the threat of the Japanese invasion of the Pacific during WW2.

When eventually moving back to Kuaotunu permanently Gay did all her schooling at Kuaotunu, including

correspondence as at that time there was no High School in Mercury Bay. Her grandson is now the Music

Teacher at MBAS.

As a young girl she often stayed at Callaway House in Coromandel with family friends.

Gay who now lives in Te Awamutu, has wonderful memories and stories of people and times that helped

shape the Kuaotunu community in those years.

Please note that coffee dates and times may be subject to change. Please contact the Society directly for more information.
