Whitianga New build - reputable and competent builder
Happy New Year Nick & Hollie. This has been a while in coming but we wanted to share our thoughts about our experience working with Cove Construction to build our new holiday home in Whitianga, which was completed last year (2022).
What great advice we got when we first met Nick on site - one of our options was to renovate the existing house. “Knock it down & start again” he said, proving to be the first key decision we got right!
The second was, on his recommendation, meeting John Ottaway from DataPlan Waikato. From the outset we had confidence that John understood our own ideas and requirements, especially regarding the general look we were wanting to achieve, the flow throughout the house and its functionality.
He very quickly took our own sketch plans and turned them into concept drawings which we were instantly enthusiastic about. Attaining the initial building consent, subsequent compliance at all stages and the final Code of Compliance went very smoothly, which we put down to John’s excellent preparations and Nick’s project management skills.
The building consent was issued on 1st July 2021 and despite the challenges and disruptions caused by Covid, we found ourselves moving in less than 10 months later before Easter 2022. We believe this was a fantastic effort. Again, this is testament to Nick’s ability to accurately co-ordinate services, materials, sub-contractors and all aspects of the project.
Jay & his team did a fantastic job - their workmanship and professional approach, along with that of all sub-contractors, ensured that the completed project has met, if not exceeded, our expectations in every way.
Two aspects that are very important to us are communication and transparency, and in this regard Nick and everyone involved were impeccable. We always knew what were getting and what we were paying for. Along with Nick’s timely responses to phone calls and emails, where appropriate our access to sub-contractors & suppliers to discuss our needs directly was appreciated by us, and seemingly well received by them.
Teaming up with Nick we also used Hollie from STyla.design. This proved to be valuable in helping us with selection of colours, textures, floor coverings and other materials used throughout. Hollie was great at listening to our ideas and guiding us with suggestions to achieve the overall effect that we were looking for.
We are thrilled with the outcome and the entire process of getting there - if you are looking for a reputable and competent builder, we fully recommend Cove Construction and STyla.design.

Consistently exceeded our expectations

We first contacted Nick to work with us on our new site at Matarangi after noticing a number of successfully completed Cove Construction projects in the area. From our first meeting Nick was straight forward to deal with and assisted with developing our sketch plans to building consent documentation with John Ottaway from Dataplan.
We signed the building contract with Nick during the Level 4 lockdown in 2020 and Nick and Jay got started as soon as the Coromandel dropped down to Level 3. During the build the Cove Construction team consistently exceeded our expectations. The sub contractors were fantastic and are clearly very loyal to Cove Construction, which is a testimony to the way that Nick manages the projects. The progress on site was rapid and the finer details of the build were dealt with quickly and practically, nothing was ever a problem. This resulted in our project been completed on schedule in December 2020.
We could not be happier with the outcome.

The Whole Building Process Was Stress Free & Enjoyable

I wanted to write to you, to thank you Nick, your project manager Caleb, and all the guys who worked so hard to build my cottage. I absolutely love it. As you know I was based in Auckland, and the build was in the Coromandel, which could have be difficult for me.
The whole building process was not only stress free but actually enjoyable ,because of your great communication, project management,attention to detail, and coming up with ideas which improved the cottage, even suggesting the perfect exterior paint colour when I was struggling to find a colour I liked, that the council would approve. You took the plans and made them better.
I appreciate the way you took a personal interest, listened to my concerns and problem solved for me. The cottage has been finished to a high standard, and completed on time, I cannot fault it.

Technically Challenging Work Was Executed With Perfection
We decided that it was time to build on our Pines section in Matarangi and we wanted to build a luxury beach home that sat well in the Pines environment, we are very particular about detail and wanted to achieve the wow factor. We approached Nick Gill in January 2017 and he was extremely receptive to what we were trying to achieve and very easy to deal with.
We have been impressed with Nicks ability to come up with creative ideas to enhance our build. Nick was always available to discuss, provide solutions and we made a number of changes along the way which Nick included with ease. All members of the building team are really easy to deal with and did a fantastic job on the detailing our home required, they kept us informed and asked questions along the way.
The construction of some aspects involved some technically challenging work which was executed with perfection. We were impressed with the standard of workmanship his sub trades provided and the excellent relationship Nick has with these teams meant everything was completed on time. We moved in as planned in November 2017 and really love our home. It has been a pleasure to deal with Nick and his team and we would certainly recommend and use them again.
