Whitianga e-Waste Drive

A temporary drop-off centre will be set up on Moewai Road at the proposed new Refuse Transfer Station (RTS) site. To get there, head past the airport towards the bike park, and you will find them on the right-hand side of the road, just past Paradise Pets Whitianga (located on the left). There will be signage showing you where to enter.

Operating from 10am to 2pm on both days, the Trust will be accepting any unused or unwanted electronic waste (anything with a plug or battery-operated). A donation for smaller items is welcomed. Larger items may incur a small fee.

What is e-Waste?

Examples of electronic waste (e-Waste) include TV’s, computers, mobile phones, and batteries. Printer cartridges will also be accepted. You can download a full list of the items that will be accepted and the proposed fees below. All funds raised will go towards the planning and construction of the Mercury Bay Resource Recovery Centre.

Thank you for funding

Funding has been provided for the e-Waste Drives from Thames-Coromandel District Council (TCDC) out of their Waste Minimisation Fund. They have also kindly donated the use of the premises for the two days. The Mercury Bay Resource Recovery Centre Trust (MBRRCT) would like to thank TCDC for their financial and promotional support.

MBRRCT would also like to thank the Mercury Bay Business Association and Whitianga Residents and Ratepayers Association for providing promotional support in getting the message out to local businesses, residents and ratepayers.

Further Drives in 2022

The MBRRCT will be holding two more drives in 2022, keep an eye out for an announcement on when these will be happening. They encourage you to follow their Facebook Page.

Whangamata Resource Recovery Trust

The Whangamata Resource Recovery Trust also have an e-Waste Drive the same weekend as Whitianga, at 101 Lindsay Road, Whangamata. Inwards vehicle access is located opposite the gym. If you are heading in their direction, you can take your e-Waste items there instead.
