Caring for Matarangi's coast

Working in partnership with the local community, iwi, Department of Conservation and Councils, Coastcare Waikato are working together to protect our precious coastline in the Mercury Bay.

There are working bees and plantings through out the year.

Can you Help?

This summer has been a reminder that the coastal area is very dynamic. The dunes did their job, acting as a sacrificial barrier between the ocean and the land. Matarangi beach lost around 6 metres of sand dunes during the cyclone season. Restoration is an important tool to help the beach recover.

The Matarangi Beach is important to all that use it and we are calling to all locals to come down and support this project.
We are calling out for volunteers and we are putting on a barbecue for those present. (Weather permitting!)
