Caring for the Coast of Mercury Bay

Working in partnership with the local community, iwi, Department of Conservation and Councils, Coastcare Waikato are working together to protect our precious coastline in the Mercury Bay.

Keen to help?

If you'd like to join in and help maintain our dune areas and don't mind a bit of gardening, some great company and the outside. Then bring along your favourite little spade or gardening tools and gloves, water bottle and hat and sunscreen.

School Holidays restoration Planting Bee

Bring the kids and get outside! With support of The Mercury Bay Environmental Trust (Mercury Bay Coastcare) this is a great school holiday activity for the whole family - come along and help us out!

We are planting native dune plants kowhangatara, pingao, wiwi & pohuehue.

Followed by a sausage sizzle at the end for those who come and help!

End of season Dune Planting (Macrocarpa Reserve) August 27th

There are a huge amount of plants to plant into the dunes to close off the planting season. The dune areas expanding into the reserve to create a wider buffer between the sea and the land. Some help to get them settled in their forever dunes would be great!

Meet at Macrocarpa Reserve (Dog exercise beach where you can launch sailboats)

Supported by the 5th Wheeler Group who will be in town for the planting.
