Caring for the Coast of Kuaotunu
Working in partnership with the local community, iwi, Department of Conservation and Councils, Coastcare Waikato are working together to protect our precious coastline in the Mercury Bay.
There are working bees and plantings through out the year.
Keen to help?
Everyone is welcome and if you'd like to join in and help protect the Kuaotunu coast and don't mind a bit of gardening, a chat while you work and fresh air, then bring along your favourite little spade or gardening tools and gloves, water bottle and hat and sunscreen. Starts at 8.45am.
Weed swap
Alongside this there will also be a weed swap, where locals can bring along weeds such as ginger, cotoneaster and others. Some of these are pretty, but they can crowd out native species that work to trap sand and build up the dunes. In return, you can take away a native shrub.
