Caring for the Coast of Kuaotunu
Working in partnership with the local community, iwi, Department of Conservation and Councils, Coastcare Waikato are working together to protect our precious coastline in the Mercury Bay.
There are working bees and plantings through out the year.
Keen to help?
Everyone is welcome and if you'd like to join in and help protect the Kuaotunu coast and don't mind a bit of gardening, a chat while you work and fresh air, then bring along your favourite little spade or gardening tools and gloves, water bottle and hat and sunscreen.
Planting at Kawhero Reserve July
There have been lots of planting bees over the last few months. It would be great to see you to help with this one.
The aim is to get rid of exotic weeds and garden escapees from the dunes and coastal reserves.
We are planting native dune plants (wiwi & pohuehue) to help our dunes recover from the foot traffic damage, invasive species (marram) and 'blow out' areas caused over the last couple of years.
