Waka Ama Challenge in Whitianga
The Cathedral Cove Challenge is Whitianga Waka Ama’s annual showcase event where we get to share our beautiful waters and scenery. Featuring the iconic Cathedral Cove, this is the 6th year we have hosted this event and its popularity is growing as a must do event for New Zealand waka ama paddlers.
Programme
Day 1 sees the best teams push each other on a challenging 25km course, leaving from Buffalo Beach out past Cathedral Cove down to Hahei/Wigmore pass, come back in behind Centre Island and back to Buffalo Beach.
Day 2 starts with novice teams out to challenge themselves and have a go at ocean racing in our stunning waters on an 11km course. Next sees the more experienced and best paddlers push themselves in singles on a 16km course from Buffalo Beach to Cathedral Cove and back.
