The new Whitianga skatepark will be built adjacent to the existing site at Taylor's Mistake and will become a fun, safe place for all ages to skate.

The Mercury Bay Skatepark Trust was established in May 2017 to drive and support the plans for a replacement to the existing skatepark.

To help make the skatepark project happen, the trust has received support and donations from local businesses and the Thames Coromandel District Council. The Mercury Bay Skate Park Trust has now reached it's fundraising target and anticipate that construction of the skate park will commence in July - August 2020

Design of Skate park at Taylors Mistake / Whakau Reserve
The design of the park is in three areas -
- A street drain run, with low and high obstacles
- An open flow section, incorporating some unique and challenging obstacles, that will range from beginner to intermediate riders
- A bowl section that will stand alone for intermediate to advanced riders, with quarter pipes
