Some Whitianga Tennis Club History

The Mercury Bay Tennis Club was formed in 1898 by an enthusiastic group of locals and was located at a number of different sites over the years. Originally tennis was played on a grass paddock on Buffalo Beach Road. The club moved to the Lee farm site on the corner of Albert and Lee Street between 1902 and 1908.  In 1908 Fred Meikle gave land to the club to use at its present location on Albert Street.
