Good quality seasonal food, fresh from local growers is the focus for chef Emily Thomas who is now in charge of the kitchen at Colenso Licensed Cafe. Back from an extended stay overseas, Emily is working alongside her mother and stepfather Judy and Gary Inglis, who've had years of experience in hospitality - and says she's lucky to also have a group of experienced staff.
Colenso, one of the Coromandel Peninsula’s best known establishments with its shop, garden and mandarin orchard, has long been a favourite of locals and holiday visitors.
Emily is indulging her passion for fresh local and seasonal produce and relishes working alongside Colenso's experienced staff who offer a warm and excellent service. Cakes, tarts and quiches are baked fresh and changing menu boards with Emily’s Specials - light lunches, platters, soups and seasonal healthy salads offer an abundance of choice. Many of the old favourites remain and have been given new life with the new chef's little touches. The fresh garnishes come from the cafe’s own gardens.
Colenso is licensed and serves Atomic coffee and a variety of teas. In season we offer our own freshly squeezed mandarin juice.
Stop in for morning or afternoon tea or linger a little longer over lunch and a glass of wine.
