The seaside village feel will be coming alive this summer at the Matarangi Summer Festival. It’s packed full of free entertainment for all ages over the Christmas and New Years period.

With over 20 events on offer you won’t need to go far to find fun for the whole family!

Local business and volunteers get behind the festival

Thanks to the efforts of local businesses and volunteers a jammed pack line up of activities will be held throughout Matarangi.

In total 20 Matarangi businesses, community groups and volunteers have sponsored a mixture of family events planned for December and January. The festival is a great way for families to meet and promotes the village feeling of Matarangi.

Something for everyone! From cupcakes and fishing competitions to sandcastles and cardboard creations.

20th December – 11am

Santa Parade
Santa is coming to town, gather your mates & decorate your favourite set of wheels or put your best Xmas costume on for our beach side parade. All welcome and for the kids Santa is coming.

Fire Station Open Day
Get up close & personal with the MVRFF engines. Down at the Matarangi Fire Station kids can even have a go with the fire hose. See the Jaws of life operating!

Bar Crossing Seminar
We are presenting a 'Bar Crossing Advisory Seminar' at the Fire Station. Everyone is welcome

The Big Dig

Hey kids can you dig? If so, get down to the beach off the village green, find an ice block stick (hands only) and see what your prize is. Age groups – up to 5y, 6-10y & 11-15y.

School PTA BBQ Fundraiser

Our local school, Te Rerenga, has it's very own PTA. Pop down to the village green at 11am for their BBQ Fundraiser for the local kids who attend this amazing country school.

Matarangi Rocks

From the beach to the harbour and everywhere in between. We have hidden 50 rocks that are easily seen. Hunt one out, don't be a bore, a special prize is waiting in store! So pop into the Four Square for details.

Sand Castle Competition and Big Beach Dig

From individuals to families, young to the not so young. Show your creativity on the day with castles big or small. Down on the beach off the village green.

Mini Olympics

Get down to the village green for a fun filled afternoon with the team from Coromandel's MoreFM.

Annual Fishing Competition

The adults get a chance to show who the 'reel' fisherman is! Tickets available at Matarangi Beach Realty Ltd & Matarangi Store.

The Rings Beach to Matarangi Swim

Brush off the wetsuits and get in the water for a swim from Rings to Matarangi. Enter here – Rings to Matarangi.

Cardboard Cup

If you are aged between 8-18 years, get out all those cartons and boxes and create your own unique designed vessel. Get ready to race on the day around a 50 metre course at the wharf. Entry forms from Richardsons Real Estate.

Kids Fishing Competition

Bring your small fry (kids under 12 years) down to the Matarangi Wharf for the kids to show up their parents in the  Kids Fishing Competition. Great prizes for the biggest sea creature, most fish and biggest fish.

Matarangi Mile

For all you keen runners, get your racing shoes or feet down to the Beach at the village green for the Matarangi Mile. If you're 13 years and over this one is for you plus great prizes for the place getters.

Matarangi Beach Tennis Open

2nd Annual Matarangi Beach Tennis Open at the village green. Categories: U14s, U18, Mens, Womens, Mixed. All matches are doubles. $5 per person for Junior events. $10 per person for adult events. Please message Nic Burnie or 021 0398030 to enter or more details.

Kids Cupcake Decorating

Kids get your best icing skills and decorate your cupcake for the first annual 'Best dressed Cupcake'. Judging at 3pm on the reserve in front of Pipers Cafe.
