Is your business visible and ranking online?

When was the last time you Googled your business? Searching for your business by using key words that a customer might use will show where your business ranks and what your customers are seeing. It’s a good idea to do this regularly as your ranking may change over time and your descriptive information may require updating. Make it a habit to search your business and key words regularly.

It’s estimated that Google processes approximately 63,000 search queries every second, that’s 5.6 billion searches a day -  according to Hubspot.com.

Tip - use an ‘incognito’ session or clear your cache so you get unbiased results.

Assessing your online presence – five things to check

1.  Where do you rank? Are you near the top of the first page of the search?

75% of people never scroll past the first page of search results (https://inter-growth.co/seo-stats/)

  • SEO or search engine optimisation may need updating if you are not showing up page one.

2.  Is your contact information easily found? Phone & email? Address? Opening hours?

If these details are not easily found, customers may click on a competitor. Google likes these details too and it will help your ranking to make sure these are included in your online presence.

3.  Is your business connected to other established and trusted websites?

  • You can use other trusted and established websites that have large existing audiences to refer traffic to your own website or digital profiles. By connecting with websites such as All About Whitianga this serves to not only endorse your own brand but also drives new traffic to your own website. Evergreen content in the form of customer reviews, helpful blogs or articles are likely to have a sustained level of interest and can assist with delivering organic search traffic.

4.  What does your website look like on a mobile phone?

  • At the time of writing approximately 56% of web traffic is conducted on a mobile phone. So you need to make sure that your online presence looks good on any device.

5.  What images come up with your business name?

  • 62% of millennials and Gen Z use a visual search over all other search types. (SEMrush)
  • They say ‘a picture is worth a thousand words’ so great images and ‘hero shots’ are a must.
