The Tuia Stage is an outdoor performance space, located at Taylor’s Mistake for the purpose of Tuia 250 commemoration activities.

What to Expect

Bring your family to enjoy this free outdoor event held over 12 hours featuring our special  local Coromandel artists.  This event is part of the  Tuia 250 commemorations. 
Over the 12 hours this cultural showcase of Coromandel Artists will include special works by poets, storytellers, musicians, dancers and kapa haka groups.

Special Composition Performance
There will be a featured 30 minute composition by Charles Royal, performed by James Webster and friends.  This composition has been created especially for the Tuia Stage.
  •  incorporating taonga puoro, traditional Maori instruments
  •  sung largely in English with Maori passages 
  • accompanied by 20 woodwind and string musicians from Waikato’s Orchestra Central, alongside Mercury Bay Community Choir.
The Raranga Tent - Featuring Local Craft
Situated next to The Tuia Stage the Raranga tent will exhibit creations from Coromandel Weavers who will be demonstrating the art of weaving for members of the public of all ages to observe and to try. 

Free Admission
Events on The Tuia Stage have been fully funded by Lotteries Tuia Programme and therefore are free to the public.  As part of the National Tuia 250 Commemorations. This event focuses on the local history when Captain Cook visited Mercury Bay and met local Iwi Ngati Hei and the history of Kupe in the Coromandel region.
