What to Expect

All are welcome to enjoy a series of events at Cooks Beach to celebrate as part of the Tuia 250 Events.  Bring your friends and family to a great series of events October 18th-20th.

Cooks Beach "Beach Call"

Friday 18th October  (8am - 9.30am)
Pop down to the beach at the Central Reserve at Cooks Beach to watch the Endeavour and Fa'afaite Va'a sail past. BYO breakfast, hot drinks and something to sit on.

"Conversations" at the Cooks Beach Hall

Friday 18th October (7.30pm - 9pm)
With special guests, noted author/historian Graeme Lay and Joe Davis Ngāti Hei Kaumatua talk in detail with John Steele about the 12 days Cook spent in Te Whanganui o Hei. Limited tickets available from Richardsons Real Estate Cooks Beach.

Movie Day at the Cooks Beach Hall

Saturday 19th October (1pm, 2pm & 3pm)
Join us for a public screening of the “12 Days” DVD. Screening runs for 35 minutes and the Mercury Bay Museum will also be onsite to answer questions. Aimed at all ages - come learn a little bit more about Cooks Beach's dual history. 

Sailing the Endeavour at the Cooks Beach Hall

Saturday 19th October (4pm)
 An informal community event - a presentation will be held in the hall by Miriam Dawson to speak about her voyage across the Tasman on the Endeavour this September. 

Purangi Heritage Project

Sunday 20th October (11am at the Purangi Reserve)
Rededication and opening ceremony for the Purangi Heritage Project.
