Kuaotunu - Northern Mercury Bay Art Collective
The collective, who live and work in the northern Mercury Bay area, are known for the variety of their creative output, with the exhibition including sculpture, painting, photography, drawing, paper engineering, raranga (weaving) wood working, collage and mixed media.
A feature of this year’s exhibition is a collaborative work titled The Box, where all members of the collective contributed their skills towards its design and production.
The new member of the collective, Peter Matai Johnston, was part of the NgArti show supporting a visiting exhibition of Maori artists in Whitianga during the Tuia 250 commemorations in October.
Guest artist this year is Estelle Withy from the Bay of Plenty who works with harakeke and aims to bring ancient techniques of raranga to a wider audience.
