What to Expect

There is something for everyone at the Mercury Bay Library (located in Whitianga) from the latest novels, children's books, DVDs, kids holiday activities, Friends of the Library group and regular library events.
The Mercury Bay Library services both the town of Whitianga and the smaller communities within Mercury Bay. One of the three Thames-Coromandel District Libraries, the Mercury Bay Library offers a variety of services, seasonal programmes and activities for Coromandel Peninsula residents and visitors.

HOW TO JOIN MERCURY BAY LIBRARY
You will need to bring photo ID (e.g. passport, driver's licence, ID card) and a document confirming your home address (e.g. power bill, bank statement etc.) to join. 

WHAT IF YOU ARE ONLY VISITING AND WANT TO JOIN?
If you are visiting the area and would like to borrow items from the library, you can purchase a temporary subscription for $20 for up to three months

YOU CAN BORROW
Books, magazines, DVDs and talking books. Books and talking books are issued for three weeks, while media items like magazines and DVDs are issued for one week. Items may be renewed for an additional time period, providing they have not been requested by another borrower.  Rental items (i.e. items with a charge) will incur another charge upon renewal.

MERCURY BAY LIBRARY COLLECTIONS INCLUDE
  • fiction, nonfiction, reference and Maori material for all ages  
  • graphic novels for all ages
  • online access to a selection of medical and technical journals
  • we don't hold car manuals - but we can usually source them for you from other libraries 
  • newspapers, magazines and DVDs
  • dedicated children's and young adult's collections
  • large print and talking book collections designed to meet the needs of (but not limited to) for seniors
  • e-books and help connecting your e-reader to our catalogue
  • family history and local history resources, including access to the Ancestry.com databases.

SERVICES THE MERCURY BAY LIBRARY OFFERS
  • seasonal reading programmes and/or holiday activities for children and teens
  • toddler time for pre-schoolers.
  • delivery of books to housebound readers on a temporary or permanent basis
  • reader's advisory and help in selecting the right material for yourself and /or your children 
  • free internet access 
  • printing, photocopying, faxing, and laminating.
