What to Expect

The harbourmaster is employed by Waikato Regional Council to manage navigation safety in Whitianga and the Mercury Bay Area.

The harbour master promotes the safe and navigable use of the Waikato region's waterways by:
• patrolling the waterways
• removing navigation hazards ie: logs
• maintaining signage at boat ramps
• ensuring Naviagation Safety Bylaw compliance
• disposal of wrecks
• working with the community to promote safety on the water
