The Arts are alive in Whitianga
Creative Mercury Bay aims to nurture and develop Mercury Bay resources, and artists and audiences of all ages. The focus for Creative Mercury Bay this year is to support the performing arts.
Whiti Fest
Featuring a range of local performance artists, from puppetry to poetry to dance and music, Whiti Fest was held in February 2021. Each artist performed two 20 minute sets at two different locations, Like a traditional busking festival the performers put out their hats out for koha. Performances were held in central Whitianga town and the Esplanade waterfront areas. This free family-friendly event was a great success!
Bubble Bites
Creative Mercury Bay launched an innovative online video series called ‘Bubble Bites’ to help local Coromandel Peninsula performance artists and their audiences stay connected during the Covid 19 coronavirus lockdown and bubble restrictions in April 2020.
